Crespo-Haus
Eschborn
With the renovation of the listed building ensemble from the 1950s, open spaces for studios, workshops, administration and exhibition rooms were created in close coordination with the conservation authorities and the Crespo Foundation as owner and user. The revived glass roof on the first floor, together with the new elevator and the connecting bridge in the atrium, creates the central access between the offices on the upper floors and the exhibition areas on the ground floor and basement.
The striking new building is characterized by its curved flying roof. The greenery on the flying roof harmonizes with the design style of the monastery courtyard, while the transparent design of the extension allows views and light into the exhibition rooms and creates a new connection to the city and the medieval Carmelite monastery via the large flight of steps. For the Crespo Foundation, the open building design integrates the connection between art, education and social issues as well as inviting spaces for people to meet.
